1. Over sized Logos/ Headers

To make an unforgettable impression on the visitor, the trend for 2010 will be over sized logos on an equally over sized header. These types of headers can take up the entire screen, but with one important note. Visitors will not need to click anything, just scroll down. Big headers do the job of a splash page without forcing your visitors to click anything.

Main Idea: Huge headers that make your visitors remember you.

2. Sketch/ Hand-drawn Design

Hand-drawn design is not exactly new, but we all know that it is still on the fringes of web design. Many designers admire the style but are afraid to create their own sketches because of the “I can’t really draw” attitude. If you look at the most popular hand-drawn websites (and relative to other types of trends, there are only a few), you will notice that most of your fellow designers can’t draw. These designs are not exactly headed to an art museum, but they do convey a sense of whimsy, and blur the line between cold web and personal interaction– the ultimate goal of the internet. If you can doodle, you can sketch for web design.Sketch in 2010 will become more elemental, and not as much the main focus of a web design. It will be used to personalize standard web copy in new and exciting ways.

Main Idea: Sketch becomes an elemental part of corporate design.

3. Slab Typefaces

Slab typefaces are relatively new, although they’ve been around for over 200 years in traditional media. To get a good visual definition of slab typefaces, think of the old Wild West “Wanted” posters. Those bold letters are slab typefaces. Slab typeface is commonly all capital letters and are bold and imposing. Many designers have shied away from slab typefaces in the past because logos and headers were smaller and more understated. However, combined with the trend toward larger headers, slab typefaces demand the reader to take notice.

Main Idea: Slab typefaces is used to bravely express who you are.

4. Typography

Typography is one of the most difficult trends to tackle which is why it will remain fresh in 2010. With all the cries for usability, web designers are afraid of using new and different fonts. The idea of mixing varying font sizes together is completely unthinkable. Fonts are meant to be explored, twisted, and molded to fit your purposes. With the correct placement, a website that utilizes Typography as its main design element will be more interesting to a reader than overloading the same site with tons of photos.

Main Idea: Typography is young, but will continue to be a part of web design.

5. One Page Layouts

One pay layouts challenge you to edit away what’s unnecessary. In 2010, this trend will move away from the quirky navigation and become more minimal in its approach. Think of these websites as business cards. These websites will be more of a one-stop-shop for how to locate you and your work on various other sites– your blog and your social media hangouts.

Main Idea: One page layouts will be more about personal profiles and less corporate.

6. Huge Images

A close relative to the oversized logo/ header, the huge image does much the same thing. It creates an visual impact that the visitor won’t soon forget. Unlike the oversized header from above, huge images are not part of the site’s branding. Instead, these images draw the visitor into your site, if not for their content then for their humongous size. In 2010, web designers will find themselves more comfortable using these big statements in their design to convey the site’s tone.
Main Idea: Huge images will be used to invite visitors in.

As we’ve discussed before, the desktop perspective has been done to death. 2010 will see a definite change in perspective to a more realistic view. There may also be a move toward side-shot aerial.
Main Idea: 2010 will play around with different perspectives.
8. Interactive/ Intuitive Design
Flash has seen better days. There was a time when you couldn’t visit a website without running into an annoying Flash interface. These days Flash is a lot more relaxed and much more professional. Although some designers prefer jQuery for forms and popups, Flash still has its place in design, especially when done subtly. Flash still has no equal to its interactivity. In 2010, web designers will move toward the more redeeming elements of Flash. Because the average visitor is more web savvy these days, designers will also create sites that are slightly more intuitive than in the past.
Main Idea: Interactive design will make a come-back.
9. Modal Boxes
Modal boxes are a trend that’s picking up steam and will be virtually everywhere in 2010. A modal box is like the popup’s more sophisticated older brother– it’s smooth, good looking and popular. Modal boxes are so easy to design and easy to use, making them the perfect solution for any designer concerned with usability.
Main Idea: Modal boxes will continue to pop up in 2010 designs.
10. Minimalism
Forget the old school minimal websites. Websites of 2010 will continue to feature lots of white space but with bold typology and surprising color schemes. Not all minimal websites will agree with the notion of black and white simplicity. Although minimalism is by nature muted, it will also showcase fresh colors. Minimalism isn’t cold, it’s warm and too the point.
Main Idea: Minimalism will venture into typology.
11. Oversized Footer
Oversized footers may be everywhere already, but 2010 will find them even more exaggerated. The footers of tomorrow will be less of an after-thought and more of an integral part of the design. Look for footers that feature contain random information, such as feed updates from various social media, daily polls, and Flickr feeds.
Main Idea: Oversized Footers will feature less important, but more personal information.
12. Retro
Retro designs are here to stay. Although a lot of the design community admires retro web design, it can be difficult to fully embrace this style without coming across “undone.” The key to retro designs is to be inspired by its tone and underlying playfulness. In 2010, retro design will be expanded as designers find new ways to honor vintage art.
Main Idea: Retro is new.
13. Intro Boxes
“Hi, my name is…” will find an even bigger stage in 2010 as designers recognize the beautiful simplicity of introducing yourself to your visitor. If you’re struggling with making a creative “About” page, the intro box will be your best bet. It forces you to condense who you are into a relatively small about of space. In 2010, intro boxes will push its own boundaries. Instead of the boring hello, designers will find new pick-up lines. And, instead of the left-flanked intro block, 2010 will see boxes in unusual placement, perhaps even in the middle of a page.
Main Idea: New ways to say “hello.”
14. Magazine Layouts
As more and more people migrate from the comforts of traditional press to online infotainment, designers are challenged to welcome them in with an easy transition. There is a move toward the magazine layout, where information is carefully organized on a single home page, giving the visitor an opportunity to explore as interested. The familiar layout will appeal to appeal to anyone who’s ever read a magazine or newspaper, but it will also be easier to use– no flipping pages! In 2010, magazine layout will become very huge for blogs in particular.
Main Idea: Magazine layouts will be used for infotainment sites.

How to Find Someone

Make a detailed profile of the person you're looking for, containing information such as name (first, middle, last, maiden, married, nicknames, etc), age or date of birth, old addresses, past jobs, schools, habits, likes, dislikes, any person you feel might be able to help you to get to this person, etc.
Search for the name of the person online and look for clues that suggest towards the profile you have prepared and write them down, opposite the concerned field.
If you find many names similar to the name of the person you are looking for, put quotation marks around each version of the name and plug it into major search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, etc. The more variations and search engines you try, the more info you're likely to find.
In case you suspect that the person has gone to some another country, where a different language is spoken, try using major search engines that have different versions for different countries.
If you are searching for a woman, who might've married and changed her name, add 'née' in the search box, with every variation of the name. Née is a word, which indicates that the person is using their maiden name.
Another way of finding a person is using websites that exist specifically for this purpose. You can also try social networking sites such as Orkut, MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
For US, search the zip code corresponding to a specific city, town or state. If you have a 9 digit zip code, it can belong to the exact block within a city or town. With the help of this, you can search directories in that area for this person. If they are not listed in that directory, call directory assistance.
Check out for the person's phone number. Plug-in his/her phone number into search engines, as it will show if it has been listed or advertised by the person on the Internet. Put the entire phone number in quotes and experiment with hyphens, periods and parentheses, to separate the numbers.
Go through organizations that the person might've joined or be associated with. It can be a hobby, church, non-profit, or professional organization. If available, ask for a copy of their membership directory and look out for the person's name there.
Interact with other people who knew the person you're searching for. Enquire about he/she last saw them or talked to them. You can also look for any personal information, like last known email addresses or phone numbers. Give your name and phone number to these people, as they may pass it on to the person you are looking for.
You can post an ad if nothing else seems to work. Ads can be given in local online bulletin boards, asking for information about the person. It should also be accompanied by your contact information. If the location of the person is unknown, but you do have information regarding his/her career, hobbies/interests, and the like, try posting on forums and e-mail lists 'listservs'. However, keep the person's privacy in mind and don't reveal any incriminate information that you know about him/her.
You can hire a private investigator to find the person, in case you are not able to do it personally. In such a case, it is the best to pay a professional for the job.

Ideally, your company logo enhances potential customers and partners' crucial first impression of your business. A good logo can build loyalty between your business and your customers, establish a brand identity, and provide the professional look of an established enterprise.

Consider Allstate's "good hands" logo. It immediately generates a warm feeling for the company, symbolizing care and trust. With a little thought and creativity, your logo can quickly and graphically express many positive attributes of your business, too.

Logo Types
There are basically three kinds of logos. Font-based logos consist primarily of a type treatment. The logos of IBM, Microsoft and Sony, for instance, use type treatments with a twist that makes them distinctive. Then there are logos that literally illustrate what a company does, such as when a house-painting company uses an illustration of a brush in its logo. The Nike swoosh has no inherent meaning outside of what's been created over the years through savvy marketing efforts that have transformed the logo into an "identity cue" for an athletic lifestyle.

Growing businesses can rarely afford the millions of dollars and years of effort required to create these associations, so a logo that clearly illustrates what your company stands for or does may be a better choice. Even a type treatment of your company's name may be too generic, says Placitas, New Mexico, logo designer Gary Priester, principal of gwpriester.com, the Web arm of design firm The Black Point Group. Priester believes customers should be able to tell what you do just by looking at your logo.

Getting Started
Before you begin sketching, first articulate the message you want your logo to convey. Try writing a one-sentence image and mission statement to help focus your efforts. Stay true to this statement while creating your logo.

But that may not be enough to get you started. Here are some additional tactics and considerations that will help you create an appropriate company logo:

* Look at the logos of other businesses in your industry. Do your competitors use solid, conservative images, or flashy graphics and type? Think about how you want to differentiate your logo from those of your competition.

* Focus on your message. Decide what you want to communicate about your company. Does it have a distinct personality-serious or lighthearted? What makes it unique in relation to your competition? What's the nature of your current target audience? These elements should play an important role in the overall design or redesign.

* Make it clean and functional. Your logo should work as well on a business card as on the side of a truck. A good logo should be scalable, easy to reproduce, memorable and distinctive. Icons are better than photographs, which may be indecipherable if enlarged or reduced significantly. And be sure to create a logo that can be reproduced in black and white so that it can be faxed, photocopied or used in a black-and-white ad as effectively as in color.

* Your business name will affect your logo design. If your business name is "D.C. Jewelers," you may wish to use a classy, serif font to accent the letters (especially if your name features initials). For a company called "Lightning Bolt Printing," the logo might feature some creative implementation of-you guessed it-a lightning bolt.

* Use your logo to illustrate your business's key benefit. The best logos make an immediate statement with a picture or illustration, not words. The "Lightning Bolt Printing" logo, for example, may need to convey the business benefit of "ultra-fast, guaranteed printing services." The lightning bolt image could be manipulated to suggest speed and assurance.

* Don't use clip art. However tempting it may be, clip art can be copied too easily. Not only will original art make a more impressive statement about your company, but it'll set your business apart from others.

* Avoid trendy looks. If you're redesigning your old logo, you run the risk of confusing customers-or worse, alienating them. One option is to make gradual logo changes. According to Priester, Quaker Oats modified the Quaker man on its package over a 10-year period to avoid undermining customer confidence. But don't plan to make multiple logo changes. Instead, choose a logo that will stay current for 10 to 20 years, perhaps longer. That's the mark of a good design. In fact, when Priester designs a logo, he expects never to see that client again.

Watch Your Colors
One thing you need to be careful of as you explore color options is cost. Your five-color logo may be gorgeous, but once it comes time to produce it on stationery, the price won't be so attractive. Nor will it work in mediums that only allow one or two colors. Try not to exceed three colors unless you decide it's absolutely necessary.

Your logo can appear on a variety of media: signage, advertising, stationery, delivery vehicles and packaging, to name just a few. Remember that some of those applications have production limitations. Make sure you do a color study. Look at your logo in one-, two- and three-color versions.

Hire a Designer
While brainstorming logo ideas by yourself is a crucial step in creating your business image, trying to create a logo completely on your own is a mistake. It may seem like the best way to avoid the high costs of going to a professional design firm, which will charge anywhere from $4,000 to $15,000 for a logo design. Be aware, however, that there are thousands of independent designers around who charge much less. According to Stan Evenson, founder of Evenson Design Group, entrepreneurs on a tight budget should shop around for a designer. "There are a lot of [freelance] designers who charge rates ranging from $15 to $150 per hour, based on their experience," he says.

But don't hire someone just because of their bargain price. Find a designer who's familiar with your field . . . and with your competition. If the cost still seems exorbitant, Evenson says, "remember that a good logo should last at least 10 years. If you look at the amortization of that cost over a 10-year period, it doesn't seem so bad."

Even if you have a good eye for color and a sense of what you want your logo to look like, you should still consult a professional designer. Why? They know whether or not a logo design will transfer easily into print or onto a sign, while you might come up with a beautiful design that can't be transferred or would cost too much money to be printed. Your logo is the foundation of all your promotional materials, so this is one area where spending a little more now can really pay off later.

Using and Protecting Your Logo
Once you've produced a logo that embodies your company's mission at a glance, make sure you trademark it to protect it from use by other companies. You can apply for a trademark at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Web site.

Then, once it's protected, use it everywhere you can-on business cards, stationery, letterhead, brochures, ads, your Web site and any other place where you mention your company name. This will help build your image, raise your company's visibility and, ideally, lead to more business.

Creating a logo sounds easy, doesn't it? It can be. Just remember to keep your customers and the nature of your business in mind when you put it all together. In time, you'll have succeeded in building equity in your trademark, and it will become a positive and recognizable symbol of your product or service.

Expensive Education

I was on the phone trying to find out if my CEU class credit could apply towards my degree. Oh, only a certificate, that doesn't count as REAL college credit. Why not? Oh probably because it was 1/4 of the cost an actual College course.

It would be really great if College education did not have to be paid for. In some countries college is MUST DO, something you're proud of going to, yet it is no BIG DEAL because education is a huge part of life for them. From what I've learned here(USA), and not going off to college after right High School my self, education is taken for granted here. Taken for granted, wasted, and unappreciated. If it weren't for financial aid I would have no College under my belt. Two classes plus tuition cost over $2,000. Is that out of control? I'd say so!

With the economy the way it is, and just to give everyone a fair chance, I hope the Colleges and Universities can start lowering their costs, making the College Education not just a far off dream, but a reality for all who want to gain knowledge to help them in their career, life, or entrepreneurial goals.

I have watched the Ellen show where she has featured people who have been on YOU TUBE. Who knew you could get famous by broadcasting a show via the internet, from your own home.

Some facts about You Tube:

It was created in 2005

Google bought it in 2006

The company is based out of California

Users can upload their own videos or view what others have posted. When you create your own account you have to enter some basic info; name, b-day, email address and then you must create a password. And now you have your own YOU TUBE channel.

When I know more about using it, and uploading videos I will let you know. When you create your account we can add each other as "friends" similar to Facebook or Myspace.

It does seem simple enough to use. The hard part is deciding on what type of videos to post. That will take some time and possibly research. I'm sure having fun with it will almost guarantee you success.
